As parents of international students, you may have special concerns about your son or daughter's well-being during their time in the U.S. Since the Office of International Education is the first campus resource known to international students, we have established emergency procedures for students to follow. New international students attend a mandatory information session during orientation on safety in the U.S.

This webpage contains information about campus resources that exist to ensure your son or daughter's safety in addition to the services of the Office of International Education.

The University of Richmond has its own Police Department, which conducts a variety of services and activities on campus along with law enforcement. If you suspect your son or daughter is in danger or having an emergency, call the Police Department at 1-804-289-8715 (or 1-804-289-8911). For general questions, you can email police@richmond.edu.

The University's web site has an online directory that you can search if you need to contact your son or daughter. Please refer to the search page at https://wwws.richmond.edu/directory/, where you can find students' phone numbers, email addresses, and campus/local addresses.

The Student Health Center offers on-campus treatment for illness and injury, including referrals to off-campus sites such as hospitals and specialists if the student needs assistance not available at the Health Center.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers free and confidential services for full-time students. In addition to adjustment or emotional problems, CAPS staff can help students in solving practical problems involving other offices on campus, and to understand how the system of services and support works here at UR.

The Richmond College Dean's Office for male students and the Westhampton College Dean's Office for female students oversees residence life staff, who are trained in handling student emergencies in the residence halls.

The Office of Student Development provides disability services to ensure that students with disabilities have equal access to a UR education. The Office of Student Development invites parents to subscribe to the Emergency Email Service (http://lists.richmond.edu/mailman/listinfo/parents),

which informs families via an email alert of campus situations of immediate concern, and RichmondNow (http://lists.richmond.edu/mailman/listinfo/richmondnowonline), the University's official online news publication that contains the latest news and events on campus. These services are free of charge.

The Recreation and Wellness Center offers programs, fitness and nutrition assessments, screenings, and education about a variety of health topics. The Center also has fitness facilities including a weight room, exercise machines, pool, and racquetball and squash courts.

The University Chaplaincy fosters an interreligious community for students of all faiths or no faith, and provides grief counseling and community space for reflection and worship.
