All non-immigrant visa holders in the United
States are required to inform the U.S. Citizenship and
Immigration Services or USCIS (formerly the Immigration and Naturalization
Service or INS) of their changes of address within
10 days of the change by completing the
AR-11
Change of Address Form. The only aliens exempt from this requirement
are diplomats (visa status A), official government representatives to an
international organization (visa status G), and certain nonimmigrants who
do not possess a visa and who are in the U.S. for fewer than 30 days. Compliance with this requirement is a condition of an alien’s stay in the United States. A willful failure to inform the USCIS of a change of address within 10 days of the change is a misdemeanor crime punishable with a fine of up to $200, 30 days of imprisonment, or both. Nonimmigrants may also jeopardize their ability to obtain a future visa or other immigration benefit and be subject to removal from the United States. Change of address forms can be obtained in the Office of International Education or on the USCIS website. For more information, visit the USCIS website.
