Immigration Issues

Students need to check with the International Student Advisor regarding the procedure for reentry to the U.S. after study abroad. Those students who have exhausted their number of entries or who have an expired visa will need a new visa. Students who remain outside of the United States for a period of time exceeding five months will begin a new period of F-1 status upon reentry to the United States and require a new I-20.

Use of Financial Aid

Nonimmigrant students (visa-holders) receiving funds from the major merit programs (Oldham, Univ. Scholars, Ethyl, etc.) may use these funds to study abroad for a semester or year on UR programs. Nonimmigrant students receiving funds from the Carver, Fary, International Student and International Student Merit scholarships can only use these funds for one semester of study abroad on a UR exchange program and may not use these funds for summer study abroad. For further information, students should contact the Office of Financial Aid.
