Floods
A flood occurs when a massive amount
of rain falls over an extended period of time. These are called flash floods.
The amount of rain is so large that the lakes and rivers cannot hold all
the water. Water accumulates at places that are normally dry causing extensive
damage to the environment including: homes, animals, and any crops or plant
life in the area. Floods along rivers can also be caused by other reasons,
such as spring rain, snow melt, or from heavy rain connected with a type
of storm such as a hurricane or thunderstorms
that drop large quantities of rain.
