When planning a road trip, it's useful to know what gas mileage your car gets, so you know how often you need to stop for gas. Gas mileage is the miles your car will run for each gallon of gas. Let's find your car's gas mileage.
You need to know how many gallons of gas your car holds. You can look in the car's manual to find out. Let's say your gas tank holds 20 gallons of gas.
You also need to know how many miles your car went from the time you filled it up to the time it ran out of gas. You can look at the odometer to find this. When you filled your car up with gas the odometer read 8,743 miles. When you were out of gas and had to fill it up again, the odometer read 9,072. How many miles did your car run on that tank of gas? Now we can find the gas mileage. Divide the number of miles your car ran on a full tank of gas (329) by the number of gallons of gas your car holds (20). What is the gas mileage?
