This lesson is anchored in fourth grade Science. However, it also incorporates Mathematics and English and significant use of social/interpersonal/cooperative skills. This lesson could be extended to fifth grade Science students as well.

Previous knowledge that students must possess are strong writing skills to create a successful proposal as well as cooperative skills to combine all of their researched information. As far as science-based knowledge, the students are not required to know anything specific about Beluga whales, hence the goal of this lesson is for them to learn that information.
