Resources Needed
To implement this lesson, you will need the following resources:
The web sites used most
often in our WebQuest are listed below. You may want to review these sites before
you begin the WebQuest so that you are familiar with the content that the students
will be using.
The Virginia Association For the Preservation of Antiquities: This web site contains pictures of over 150,000 artifacts found at the Jamestown site.
The Jamestown Timeline: This web site was created by a fourth grade class in Virgina.
The Jamestowne Society: This web site contains a history of the settlement of Jamestown, including reasons for settlement, trade, and the hardships faced by the colonists.
Only one teacher is needed to implement this lesson. This WebQuest can be completed by one group of students or the entire class divided into groups of 4 students. If the entire class completes the WebQuest, then the class can vote on the best time capsule and "bury" it for the next year. As a follow-up activity to this WebQuest, teachers may choose to take their students on a field trip to Jamestown.
