Introduction

Have you ever thought about what it was like to live in Virginia hundreds of years ago? Imagine that the year is 1619. You are a member of the Jamestown settlement, the first permanent English settlement in America. Your settlement is surrounded by woods and Native Americans who speak languages you don’t understand. Most of the people you know, and the rest of civilization, are an ocean away. What would your everyday life be like? What hardships would you face? What items would be most important to your everyday life and the lives of the other settlers?
