Criteria for Group Work

Variety and Diversity in Textbook Selections (Possible 20 points)

• Selections include works from both male and female authors. (0-5 points)
• Selections include the works of native English, Irish, and British authors. (0-5 points)
• Selections have been taken from both 19th and 20th century literature. (0-5 points)
• All specified genres are represented. (0-5 points)

Choice of Selecting and Manner of Incorporating In-Class Text Excerpts (Possible 25 points)

• Selections are diverse; themes, images, plot, characterization or techniques which are present in the excerpt correspond to a similar point in one of the student selected pieces (helping the literary pieces to compliment one another.) (0-5 points)
• The questions following each selection are creative and serve to foster fruitful discussion. (0-10 points)
• The introductions preceding each selection are brief and concise; they serve to prepare the reader for the passage that he/ she is about to read, instructing the student to look for literary elements (themes, plot, characterization, etc. ) as he/ she reads. (0-10 points)

Criteria for Individual Roles (Possible 20 points each role)

The Artist

• Selected artworks are diverse (i.e. Sketches, maps, paintings, portraits) and demonstrate a variety of colors, mediums, graphics. (0-5 points)
• Cover is appealing; Title is easy to read; Attracts the eye. (0-5 points)
• Choices artwork demonstrate some relevance to the literary selections used in the anthology; concise, informative captions explain the relevancy of the art choice to the literary selection or textbook itself. (0-10 points)

The Education Expert

• Discussion questions and vocabulary sections are grammatically correct. (0-5 points)
• The questions emphasize discussion , not plot. (0-5 points)
• The "Optional Activities" are creative and well-stated; they create opportunities for the readers to continue discussing the selections. (0-10 points)

The Historian

• Information in the biography sections is relevant and accurate; the biographies display your creativity and writing skills; they are grammatically correct. (0-10 points)
• Pictures and/ or sketches are well-used to enhance the text of the biographies. (0-5 points)
• There is a diversity in the selection of biography choices (i.e. bios on novelists, poets, playwrights, artists.) (0-5 points)

The Publications Expert

• The Table of Contents and Title pages are clear and well-organized. (0-5 points)
• The textbook is well-formatted: artwork and biographies are strategically arranged in the page layout, enhancing the texts. (0-5 points)

The Statement to the Publisher is clear, creative, informative, and persuasive; it presents the strengths of the textbook as a teaching resource. (0-10 points)
