Literature Expert!!!

You will need to look at how the Spanish Civil War influenced literary creations in Spain and in other countries.  This role is unique because you are going to have to investigate outside the confines of just Spanish culture.  You are not expected to read Spanish literature in order to determine in what ways the civil war influenced Spanish authors.  Several works have been written about the Spanish Civil War which describe the influential role of the fascist regime.  For example, Ernest Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls was greatly influenced by the civil war that took place between 1936-1939.  His work provides detailed insight into just how influential the fascist regime was.  Your job is to look for clues in various literary works, both from Spain and from other countries such as the United States, that explain the impact of the spanish Civil War.  How is Spanish life depicted in literature?  Is the government ever mentioned?  How do the authors use imagery to let the reader know about certain aspects of life?  What type of writing was more common during the period immediately following the Spanish Civil War, i.e., poetry, essay, fiction, non-fiction, etc.?  Examine these ideas and look into your own conclusions surrounding what ways the literature reflects life under the fascist regime of Franco.
