The Task

Your task is to create the quilt that you think Betsy Ross had in mind while she was writing this diary entry.  By learning more about the geometric components of design and quilting, your group will be able to complete this assignment with flying colors.

You will work in groups of three as assigned by your teacher.  Each group member will take on one of three roles and will research different areas to become an expert and help the group with this project.

Dear Diary,

I have had an amazing idea for a new project, and I knew that I had to write it down before I forgot it! My goal is to create a colorful and beautiful quilt with many different colors, shapes, and patterns. This is what I have in mind:

-at least three different geometric shapes (Circles and squares, octagons and triangles, and of course--stars!)

-a symmetrical design (I love symmetry, I wish the American flag had been more symmetrical!)

-patterns using colors, shapes, or both (Patterns are what make quilts so beautiful!)

Creativity is a must when working with quilts, and the possibilities are endless.  The more I think of different quits the more ideas I have.  I only hope that I will be able to bring this dream to life!

                                                        Sincerely,

                                                            Betsy
