Introduction

Webquests are an invaluable tool to aid in educational instruction. As schools strive to increase the awareness of technology in both students and teachers, applications such as the Webquest serve as an interactive teaching device which allows children to simultaneously learn more about computers and the particular area of study in a exciting and interesting way. This particular Webquest was developed as a requirement for an education course at the University of Richmond. Taught by Dr. Patricia Stohr-Hunt the course, entitled Integrating Technology Across the Curriculum, prepares preservice teachers for implementing technology into the classroom.

This Webquest is devoted to the study of United States history. Specifically, the Oregon Trail is studied so that students will gain a insightful view from many perspectives. Through role-play, students will explore the Oregon Trail ecologically, sociologically, geographically, and empathetically. A number of sites via the Internet will be explored and analyzed. However, the most important section of the Webquest is initiated when students take on the "Task," where the knowledge gained is applied to a group project. As experts chosen by the United States government, students will compile their information to create a special report which is sent to the East coast to inform others about the perilous journey of the Oregon Trail as they travel "Wagons West!"
