The Process
Greenwood Parks
current features:
- 2000 feet long
by 2000 feet wide
- 5 Pavilions
with bathrooms (20 by 60 feet each)
- Lighting throughout
the park
Current problems:
- No trees,
shrubs, or flowers
- Broken equipment
includes: playground, football goals, soccer goals, baseball backstop, bleachers
on the soccer/football and baseball fields
- No baseball
bases, benches, trash cans, grills, etc.
The park is falling
apart and in dire need of your help! Because this is such a big task, each person
in your group will take on a specific job. These jobs will be: landscape designer,
sports/recreation designer, and facilities designer.

Putting
It All Together
After all group
members have finished gathering their information, it is time to put it all
together to renovate the park. Follow these steps to complete the park renovation.
Step 1:
Meet with your group members and present your findings. Make a final decision
on your individual items.
Calculate the
total cost of the project. This will be the total cost of the facilities, landscaping,
and sports/recreation portions. Use the following worksheet.
Total
Budget Worksheet (PDF)
Step 2:
Create a poster of your park.
- Include visual
representations of trees, equipment, etc. They may be drawn or taken from
the Web. You must cite the Web sites from where you get the pictures. Put
these citations on the back of your poster.
- Include dimensions
of the major facilities in the park to make sure it all fits. In other words,
mark on your poster how long and how wide each facility is.
- Poster must
have 5 pavilions that include picnic facilities and bathrooms. These pavilions
are 20 feet wide by 60 feet long.
- Remember, the
park is 2000 feet by 2000 feet. This is a lot of space, so you want to make
sure it does not look empty. If you feel that you need more facilities and
landscaping to make it look better, do it! Make sure to add these additions
correctly on to the respective worksheet. So if you want to add more trees,
find the best prices and place them on the landscape worksheet. Also, do not
forget to add this to the total cost!
- Place the total
cost of the park renovation in the upper left hand corner of the poster.
Step 3:
Present your proposal to the class.
- Each member
will explain various costs within their designing stage and anything that
was added that was not required.
- Explain the
reason for your chosen park layout. Be specific. (i.e. Placement of facilities,
landscaping, etc. in relation to each other)
- Present the
total cost.
