The Task
The case of Mr. X, an accused communist conspirator, has been brought before the House Un-American Activities committee. They have given it to an independent consultant team of five members. Ironically, the team is made up of five characters from the play The Crucible, including John Proctor, Mary Warren, Danforth, Abigail Williams, and Elizabeth Proctor. They have been asked to advise the committee due to their expertise on trials of this nature. You will assume the role of one of these characters and decide what they would rule in the case of Mr. X. You must consider a character analysis, their actions in the play regarding the Salem Witchcraft Trials, and the views on communism in the 1950's. Once you have come to an individual decision, you must reach a unanimous consensus within your group on whether or not Mr. X is a communist conspirator. You then must create a display board showing the House Un-American Activities Committee why you have come to this decision.
