Task

The students will construct a new constitution for the nation of Iraq which is in the process of establishing a new government system.  The students will gain an understanding for the U.S. Constitution and the Articles of Confederation by modeling the new Iraqi Constitution after these documents as well as other government documents around the globe.  It will outline the new government, how laws will be formed and enforced, and list any specific rights that citizens will have.  Students will be careful to take successful aspects of the U.S. Constitution and utilize them in a manner that is congruent with the customs and traditions of the Iraqi people.   After completing the document the group will present their final copy to the rest of the Civics class and their classmates will serve as the Iraqi people who will have the option of rejecting or ratifying the new Iraqi Constitution.
