Introduction

This WebQuest was created by students at the University of Richmond for Education 343: Integrating Technology Across the Curriculum. It was designed with the intent to inspire students to explore the possibilities of using math in a fun, real life scenario. This WebQuest incorporates concepts such as probability, geometry, adding and subtracting decimals, and money management. We estimate it will take students approximately 2 weeks to complete the WebQuest. However, the duration of the project can be altered depending on the students' current math skills.

Here is the scenario your students have been presented with:

Your school is trying to raise money to build a brand new playground! The principal has decided to hold a carnival in order to raise the money needed. Each class is responsible for planning a different part of the carnival. Your class has been chosen to create the games! It is up to you to create games that will cost the least money to make, but will give the most money back to the school. So, step right up and let's get started!
