Statistician

As your group's statistician, you are responsible for calculating the statistics and probability for the games your group has chosen to research. In order to familiarize yourself with mathematical statistics and probability, please visit the following sites:

After familiarizing yourself with the general concepts, you must calculate the statistics and probabilities for each of the games your group has chosen. Remember that you want to make sure the odds of the game are in favor of your group! Each time a player loses the game, you are making money for your school's new playground! For an explanation of what "odds" are please visit the following site:

Fill out the Statistician's Comparison Chart (PDF) as you calculate the statistics and probability for each of the two games. Remember to write in under Game 1 and Game 2 the name of the games your group has chosen.

Another one of your jobs as your group's statistician is to collect data from your classmates. You must survey the class to find out which of the two games people would prefer to play at the carnival. Use this survey chart (PDF) and make sure you survey all your classmates. By writing the names of your classmates in the first column on the chart, you will be sure to survey everyone only once. Remember to write in which game is Game 1 and which is Game 2.

Once you have gathered all your statistical data, and your group's architect and financial advisor have gathered all of their information, you should come together as a group to discuss your findings.

Remember, the data you collected might say that one game is the best, and your group members' data might say that the other game is best. You must discuss and consider all the information collected and decide as a group which game would be the best one for the carnival!
