The
Process
You will be working together
with a group of four students on this adventure.
As a group you will complete the assigned task. Each individual group member
will explore web sites chosen to provide you with information on archeology
or ancient Greece. Because these are real web sites, not pages designed just
for this adventure, the reading level might challenge you. Please use an online
or classroom dictionary to help you.
Step 1
- Background: Something for Everyone
Each
individual should briefly explore these pages on their own.
- Is the Past in your Future? - Although some modern-day historical archaeologists have adventures
like Indy's or find treasures like King Tut's tomb, most have more in common
with detective Sherlock Holmes, because they are trying, to solve the mysteries
of the past.
- Ancient
Greece site - Learn about the daily life, land, rituals, and overall culture
of Ancient Greece.
Step 2 - Looking Deeper
from Different Perspectives
Each individual will
explore one of the following roles which your teacher will assign to you.
Artifact Artist
Creative Cultural Historian
Guiding Government Historian
- Read through the web
sites provided for your role. Focus your attention on the questions that are
given. If you print out the pages, underline important sections. Please take
notes to help you in your understanding.
- Write your summary paper
and design a visual aid based on your research to present to the archaeologists.
For example, the Dirty Digger might draw a tool that they used or a map of
a dig site. The Creative Cultural Historian might draw an example of the clothing
worn by ancient Greeks. Then use this information in combination with the
rest of the group to accomplish the overall task.
Step 3 - Debating, Discussing, and Reaching Consensus
Now that each of you
have learned about your individual roles, it is time to share your findings
with the group.
- Bring your summary and
artifact drawing to a whole group meeting.
- After listening to each
member's information, you must decide what you want to tell the archaeological
team in a 10 minute presentation.
- Your presentation should
include:
