WILL Application

Each Women Involved in Living and Learning (WILL) student earns a minor in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, the academic foundation of the program. Required Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies courses provide students with a common intellectual background and analytical frameworks with which to critically examine gender roles, social institutions, and individual beliefs. The WILL program strives to integrate theory and practice; for example, students are required to complete a supervised internship.

Required Courses

Each WILL student is expected to earn a minor in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies. Two of the required courses, WGSS 201 and 301, are for WILL students only. The required courses* are:

WGSS 201 WILL Colloquium. 3 cr. hrs.
Introductory course for the WILL program that examines the connection between Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies theory and practice.

WGSS 200 Introduction to Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. 3 cr. hrs.
Examines the social construction of gender and the intersections of gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality and class in American society.

WGSS 280 Women and Work. 3 cr. hrs.
Offers an historical and comparative perspective on issues in women's work, focusing on the United Sates but exploring the global context that influences all labor today.

WGSS 388 Work Experience or Internship. 2 cr. hrs.

WGSS 301 WILL Senior Seminar. 2 cr. hrs.

Together, the Women and Work course and Work Experience (internship) provide students with the tools to critically examine the world of paid work from a gendered perspective as well as to give students an opportunity to explore career options.

Two Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies electives.

*For students beginning their course of study in Fall 2006.
