InternshipsThe combined requirements of WGSS 280 (Women and Work) and WGSS 388 (Internship) provide students with the tools to critically examine the world of paid work from a gendered perspective as well as to give students an opportunity to explore career options. Many resources are available to students who are in the process of figuring out what to do for their internship and to those who are setting up their internship. Contact Dr. Melissa Ooten, the assistant director of the WILL program, who oversees the internship program and teaches WGSS 280 (Women and Work). Email her at mooten@richmond.edu to make an appointment. Below is a list of a few recent sites students have used for their internships. In addition to the journal requirement, students answer essay questions based on concepts of power and hierarchy at work and how workers balance work and personal/family life obligations. Students participate in an online Blackboard course as they work on-site, and they also meet with Dr. Ooten and the other interns on-campus to talk through their experiences.
