Involvement
August 2007
Dear Women of Westhampton College,
Welcome to the University of Richmond, Westhampton
College, and the beginning of four amazing years. My time at Richmond has
been truly memorable and I am excited to share this next year with all of
you as we create our own memories together.
My suggestion to you is to use your time well at UR. It will never again
be as easy to meet so many new people and become involved in a multitude
of activities. Find where your passions lie. Join one or two clubs and
stick with those throughout your four years here because in the end those
will be the things that bring the most meaning to your college experience.
Early on in my first-year at UR I chose to get involved in the Westhampton
College Government Association (WCGA), and I can honestly say that it was
the best decision I have made at college. It allowed me to meet so many
people and have a variety of new experiences. Being a member of this
organization has shaped me into the person that I am today and the one
that I hope to be upon graduation. It is here that I have found my
greatest mentors, role models, and best of friends. There are
approximately 150 members of WCGA across its four branches. The branches
include the executive branch, legislative branch or Senate, judicial
branch, and the class-governing branch. The judicial branch is home to
Honor and Judicial Councils while the class governing branch includes the
four class presidents and their cabinets.
You will find that Westhampton College creates so many opportunities for
you and in choosing to participate in the activities that are of interest
to you; you will do the best and excel. Apart from WCGA, Westhampton
College also boasts a wonderful Resident Hall Association (RHA) where you
can assist in the development of the dorm community. Overall, there are
over 200 clubs and organizations to be a part of. There are also many
initiatives constantly occurring on campus, like the Allies Institute
(formerly Collegetown), which helps to spread diversity and awareness on
campus. What ever you decide to do know that your presence is making a
difference. For 93 years, Westhampton Women have been leading others both
on and off campus. The time is yours, so find your passion and believe in
it like we believe in you.
I am proud to continue the tradition of progress that is Westhampton
College and I’m delighted to share this experience with you.
Best wishes for a wonderful and successful year,
Bridget Needham
President
