First-Year Residential Options for Women
Upon beginning college in August 2008, many of you will be living in
campus housing. At Richmond, “campus housing” translates to more than
dorm rooms and multi-stall bathrooms: it is about life in college, with
friendship and learning at the center. When you move into your residence
hall, your upper-class Resident Assistant (“RA”) will welcome you and your
hallmates and explain the significance of residence life at Richmond. As
the year progresses, you will befriend hallmates and interact with faculty
and staff members who especially enjoy getting to know students in their
college home environment. Relationships that emerge out of the
residential experience explain why graduating seniors ranked our
tight-knit campus community as a top reason for loving the University of
Richmond.
To the left you will find information about several distinctive housing
opportunities for first-year students within Westhampton College. These
programs constitute some of Richmond’s living/learning or themed housing
options whereby residents live with peers who share an interest and
participate in activities revolving around topics such as the outdoors or
leadership. These special residential communities help many residents
find their niche soon after arriving on campus. They also reflect the
University’s commitment to student engagement outside the classroom and
nourishing close relationships between students and faculty.
As your dean, I can tell you with confidence that Richmond is a caring,
close community that values students first and foremost. Throughout your
time here, our residence life opportunities and offices will serve as a
rock-solid basis of support for you.
Sincerely,
Juliette L. Landphair
Dean of Westhampton College
