Welcome!
The transition to the University of Richmond is exciting, challenging, and sometimes overwhelming. Students and parents often have dozens of questions in anticipation of arriving on campus. How well those questions are answered and the anxieties minimized will often help determine the quality of a student's initial college experience. This website is designed to answer important questions and provide information about one aspect of campus life - Greek Life.
Greek Life serves as an extracurricular experience for thousands of men and women across the country. Membership in a Greek organization can help personalize the college experience by offering close friendships, scholastic encouragement and "hands-on" leadership opportunities. In addition, members develop skills that include managing budgets and planning events, exposure to potential careers through educational programs and discussions with alumni, and the chance to serve the community through a multitude of projects.
Student life at the University of Richmond has included Greek Life since 1870. There are six (inter)nationally affiliated Greek letter social men's fraternities and eight (inter)nationally affiliated Greek letter social women's sororities represented on campus. Sorority and fraternity members use either lodges or meeting rooms for chapter meetings and social gatherings. Over 1000 men and women at the University of Richmond currently participate in Greek Life, where chapters range in size from thirty to over one hundred members. Through the University of Richmond Greek Life experience, academic rigor is complimented by implementing theories, practices and life situations into organizational operations, ultimately contributing to developing a well-rounded person.
It is our hope that through information provided on this website each student may explore and consider learning more about each chapter and UR Greek Life. If you would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Student Activities at (804) 289-8505.
